European Solar Days 2011 campaign draws to a close in Brussels

 

Brussels, 26th May 2011 – The 4th edition of the European Solar Days campaign has drawn massive support for solar energy throughout the entire continent. Over the course of two weeks (1-15 May 2011) more than 8,000 events were organized in 18 countries throughout Europe, attracting half a million people in an attempt to demonstrate that solar energy constitutes a viable alternative energy source.

 

Statement: Reassuring EFSA monitoring of veterinary medicinal product residues

Brussels, 26 May 2011. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published the summary of its 2009 report on the results from the monitoring of veterinary medicinal product residues and other substances in live animals and animal products. The report, an EU overall assessment, includes all animal/animal product categories and is presented for each main substance group. The residue situation has been similar to the one in the two previous years for all substance groups.

Invasive species: the health of European animals is affected by new viruses, bacteria and parasites

Brussels, 24 May 2011 - Viruses, bacteria and parasites affecting animal health should also be taken into account when tackling invasive species in the European Union.  Declan O’Brien, Managing Director of the European Federation for Animal Health-Europe spoke today at a European Parliament hearing on “the challenge of invasive species and destructive insects”. The event was organised by the European Parliament Intergroup on climate change, biodiversity and sustainable development, and by its committee Chair MEP Gaston Di Franco (France).
