Fight against hunger: EPP Group MEPs organise support for FAO campaign '1billionhungry project'. Iñigo Méndez de Vigo MEP

EPP Group MEPs Iñigo Méndez de Vigo and Luís de Grandes will host an event on Tuesday to support the Ending Hunger campaign launched by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) with the aim of calling on world governments to give real priority to policies to fight against hunger.

EU Agency ENISA launches report on Cyber-bullying & online grooming: 18 protective recommendations against key risks

The EU Agency ENISA, the (European Network and Information Security Agency) has launched a report on cyber bullying and online grooming (preparing sexual abuse); warning that misuse of data (data mining and profiling) harms minors. The report identifies the top emerging risks and makes 18 non-technical recommendations for their mitigation. One key recommendation is to strengthen Member State’s law enforcement agencies. Other recommendations point to safeguards adapted to the needs of youth’s cyber activities.

The archives of Leo Tindemans, former Prime Minister of Belgium, former Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament and current Honorary President of the EPP Party, will be available online from 8 November. The expanded archives are the result of a long inventory process covering his political career of almost 50 years.

"For European Christian democracy, these archives are priceless", said Joseph Daul, Chairman of the EPP Group.

GUE/NGL President Lothar Bisky has reiterated calls for Israel to release without condition the detained Freedom Wave Flotilla to Gaza activists including Irish MEP Paul Murphy.

"We demand the immediate release of the flotilla passengers including Paul Murphy" Bisky said paying tribute to "the efforts of these campaigners in their humanitarian mission and highlighting of the situation in Gaza".

Subsidies for energy efficiency deliver massive returns to empty public treasuries

A new study published by the Jülich Research Centre (Germany) contradicts fears that, in times of budgetary constraints, incentive schemes for the energy efficiency of buildings would be too costly and that the deep renovation of Europe’s building stock could therefore not be supported. The report found out that for every Euro that the state owned KfW spent in support of energy efficient construction and refurbishment in Germany in 2010, revenues of public authorities at all levels increased by as much as four to five Euros.
